How often will I need to visit the office for checkups with my braces?

Most patients need checkups every 2 to 3 weeks to get their braces adjusted during traditional orthodontics treatment. These regular appointments keep your teeth moving on the right track toward their ideal positions. Your exact schedule depends on your treatment plan and how your teeth respond to braces.

What Happens During a Braces Adjustment?

During each visit, we’ll change the plastic ties on your brackets and make necessary adjustments to your wires. These adjustments apply gentle pressure to guide your teeth into alignment. We’ll also check your progress and assess your oral hygiene.

Most appointments take about 30 minutes. You might feel some tightness for a day or two after you get an adjustment. This is completely normal and means that your treatment is working.

Between your scheduled visits, look out for issues that need attention. For example, if a wire breaks, it can poke your cheek and cause irritation. A loose bracket may impact your treatment progress. So be sure to contact us right away if a wire breaks, a bracket comes loose, or you feel irritation that doesn’t go away.
