Whether it’s your child’s first dental visit or they’re seeing a new dentist for the first time, it’s essential to reassure them.

Let your child know that their teeth are important, and the dentist is there to ensure they stay healthy.

Let’s explore a few more tips to get your child ready to see their North York dentist for the first time.

#1 Emphasize the Positive

We have a friendly team here who enjoy meeting children and talking to them about their oral health. Educating them about their teeth and gums is always exciting. Let your child know that children’s dentistry with our team is about fun and learning!

They’ll have a ride in the dental chair, meet new friends in our team members, and be part of the Emery Village Dental family from now on.

#2 Talk to Them about Their Teeth

Let your child know how important their teeth are now and in the future. They’ll last for life with care and chew all sorts of different foods over the years.

If they brush correctly and enthusiastically or allow you to clean their teeth without issue, praise them for a job well done. And let them know why toothpaste is essential and how their toothbrush is best buddies with their teeth.

#3 Encourage Your Child to Ask Questions

If your child is old enough to ask questions, encourage them to think of things they’d like to ask their dentist.

  • What are cavities?
  • Do I have cavities?
  • Are my teeth healthy?

Encourage your child to take an interest and foster their curiosity.
