The Importance of Knowing Who to Call

No one thinks a dental emergency is going to happen to them…until it does. And knowing who to call when the unexpected happens offers numerous benefits when you need them the most. Here’s why having an emergency dentist is so important:

Relieves Pain

Some dental emergencies are painful, so when you visit our clinic for emergency care, one of the first things we’ll do is alleviate your discomfort.

Prevents Damage

By treating your dental emergency as soon as possible, you could avoid more extensive treatment later on and possibly save money at the same time.

Preserves Teeth

If you have a knocked-out or severely damaged tooth, seeking emergency dental care gives you the best chance of restoring your smile's health and beauty.

Provides Peace of Mind

When you already know who to contact during a dental emergency, you may not feel as stressed or anxious about the situation.

If you're not sure that your condition is a true dental emergency, don't wait to contact our North York dental office. We'll assess your situation over the phone and help determine if you need immediate attention.

Some of the treatments for a tooth emergency our dentists might recommend are:

  • Root canal treatment - alleviates infection and preserves your natural tooth structure
  • Tooth-coloured fillings - eliminates the discomfort of tooth decay
  • Porcelain crowns - repairs the damage caused by tooth decay or a fracture
  • Tooth extraction - a worst-case scenario when we can't save your tooth

Tips for Preventing Dental Emergencies

Although dental emergencies can happen even when you take good care of your mouth, there are some things you can do to keep your teeth and gums healthy and avoid issues:

  • Eat healthy foods — To keep your teeth healthy, try to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Crunchy fruits and vegetables are good for your body and can clean your teeth.
  • Avoid sweets — There’s nothing wrong with an occasional sweet treat, but when you limit sugary snacks and drinks, you have a better chance of avoiding tooth decay and other dental issues.
  • Practice good oral hygiene — It’s essential to care for your teeth by brushing and flossing each day to remove stubborn plaque.
  • Stay hydrated — Be sure to drink plenty of water each day, as it can flush away bacteria and keep your mouth clean.
  • Wear a mouthguard — If you grind your teeth or play sports, wearing a mouthguard can protect your teeth from wear and tear and damage.
  • Prioritize preventive care — We recommend a routine exam and cleaning every six months to catch any potential issues before they worsen.
